The West Circular Quay Public Domain Revitalisation project is part of an integrated strategy to to enhance this important precinct, linking The Rocks with Circular Quay and the Opera House, and providing public spaces of a calibre befitting their important foreshore location.

The landscape design seamlessly integrates complex issues, providing flexible open spaces such as the Upper and Lower Promenades, ‘MCA Square’, a new paved forecourt at the MCA’s primary entry, and ‘The Lawn’, an informal gathering space that also accommodates large art installations by the MCA. The spaces are of a scale that caters for large events such as Vivid and News Years Eve, while also providing more informal and intimate gathering spaces for daily use, such as the seating that negotiates the level change between the Upper and Lower Promenades while affording an outlook over Circular Quay.
